Comparing the movie and the miniseries, primarily through pictures.

In 1965 Frank Herbert published Dune, an incredibly complex, compelling, intriguing, complicated and beautiful novel.  He then wrote five sequels titled, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. I have been a Dune fan for a few years now and recently have reread both Dune Messiah and Children of Dune in anticipation of the new miniseries on the Sci Fi Channel.
In 1984, David Lynch directed a two hour movie version of the book Dune. The movie attempted to bring to life Frank Herbert's Arrakis and the saga of the Atreides. It had some very close accuracies to the book, as well as some stretches and inconsistencies. Due to its length however, Lynch was not able to capture the entire essence of the novel in his movie.

In 2000 John Harrison and the Sci Fi Channel produced a 6-hour miniseries version of Frank Herbert's Dune. While it too had inconsistencies and parallels to the book, it was able to encompass more of the struggle of Muad'dib and Dune.
In March 2003 the Sci Fi Channel aired the first adaptation of Frank Herbert's second and third novels in the series, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune.
The visual comparison of the two versions of Dune still remains, along with some Children of Dune wallpapers I have made based on the upcoming Sci Fi Miniseries and some links to find a wealth of knowledge about Dune and the movies related to it.
